HOUSE BY THE RIVER, DERBYSHIRE

new arrivals

five beautiful fluffy blobs arrived on my patio yesterday morning

then somebody kicked over the water bowl.

It’s hard to get them

a) not moving and

b) not pointing away from you when they’re a bit nervous

mysterious tracks

on my access drive – from the high road down to the house –

I have absolutely no idea

what made these tracks in early January

or how.

the hen tree

Seventeen extremely free-range hens getting ready for bed

gradually hopping from level to level,

(one of them insists on going right to the top)

in my neighbour’s tall tree

by where I park the car.

A fox wouldn’t have a prayer.

PS – if you click on image and then magnify, you should be able to find all 17 ( like a puzzle in a comic book) given that they’re either white, black, buff or orange/greeny black. One black smudge upper right, behind a white one, I can’t decide. Might be sixteen.
